AS Media
Evaluation: Question 1
The genre is teen fantasy. this is similar to the film beautiful creatures, it also shares similarities with the film twilight and the series The Secret Circle these are both also fantasies but they also contain huge aspects of romance where as in our film it is included, but plays a less major role.
we looked at the codes and connections of typical teen fantasy films and compared how we included, or attempted them.
The codes and conventions we looked at were
- Many cuts to build tension and suspense.
- Confirmed: we included a selection of quick short 'flashback' scenes in which gave the audience a direct idea of what was happening and gave them a feel for the film, building tension and suspense.
- Periods of silence.
- Confirmed: in the beginning of our film we included periods of silence, this built the tension and made the voice over more dramatic.
- High angle shots.
- Confirmed: these were at the very start of our opening and gave the audience an idea of the layout and whereabouts of the scene, along with the shaky camera and the quick movements it managed to make the audience feel like they were seeing the film from the eyes of a character.
- Vast open spaces/woodland areas in key parts of the film
- Challenged: as we were not creating a full film we couldn't include the 'key scenes' otherwise it would become more of a trailer or a short story. but we did manage to work our way around including a woodland scene. yes this is a key scene in the film but as it is initially the opening scene it doesn't quite have the same feel. although it does make the character look alone and helpless along with making the film seem more mysterious and makes the audience feel tension and question what is going on.
- Classical eerie music
- Challenged: we included eerie music that fitted our genre and the narrative but it was not grand, classical or full of bass like the music of typical films of this genre
- Slightly Gothic, darker clothing and make-up
- Challenged: we challenged this including selected dark clothes and make up but we wanted it to look less over dressed and more casual so we didn't attempt to fully do this look.
TORODOVS NARRATIVE
Torodov devised a way to break up a narrative into five parts the Equilibrium (this is where the setting is established), Distribution (this is when the story takes a particular direction), Recognition Of The Distribution (this is when the characters and events are interwoven), Attempt To Repair Distribution (attempt to solve the issue), Reinstatement Of Equilibrium(matters and problems are sorted out)
Using Torodovs narrative theory bellow I compared the film Beautiful Creatures with our own.
The equilibrium of the Beautiful creatures film is that one of the main characters wakes up from a recurring dream he has about a girl he has never met but cant stop thinking about, it is set in South Carolina.
The eqilibrium of ours is that Eva is narrating the scene talking about how she wishes she could go back to a time when she didnt know about the curse. the scene takes place in the woods of a small town in England. Eva is then shown on laying on the floor in a ball gown this makes the reader question what is happening it gives the idea that it is a magical film with lots of hidden secrets and twists.
The Distribution of beautiful creatures is when Lena starts to realise that the time is aproacing where she is going to have to choose if she goes dark or light (good or bad) the way she presents her self makes the audience question what the result is going yo be.
The Distribution of our film is when Eva and her friends stumble across a website with a photo that looks like her this is when she then figures out she is a witch.
The Recognition of Distribution in beautiful creatures is when Lena and Ethan realise that the time is running out and that she may turn dark Lena father tries to stop Ethan seeing Lena in fear that it will turn her dark and she will end up hurting him and the ones around her.
In our film Eva and her friend Peter both after looking more at the website discover that she is cursed and will die at the age of 18 which is coming up soon.
The attempt to repair the Distribution is when Lena father sacrifices himself to save his Ethan therefore allowing them to be together but its not over there as she still has to choose what way she is going to go. in an attempt to protect Ethan she wipes his memory clean of her resulting in him not knowing who she is.
in our Evangeline Eva travels to see the witch who put the curse on her in an attempt to cleanse herself of this she then gets rejected and is thought by an older witch how to control her magic in an attempt to remove the curse one final time.
the reinstatement of equilibrium in beautiful creatures is when Lena manages to not go neither light or dark but both then she runs into Ethan once more and they attempt to get to know each other once more.
in Evangeline, the curse is stopped and she is saved but it resulted in her loosing something close to her she then manages to restore this and the film ends on a romantic scene between her and peter realising their love for each other.
CLAUDE LEVI-STRAUSS: BINARY OPPOSITION
he thought about the narratives in more detail deciding that they depend more on the themes and the character rivalries and conflicts.
he focuses on the good and the bad (he believes that you cant have a story with out them)
In our film the good character is Eva and the bad would be the Witch who cursed her/ theoretically the curse itself.
These would allow the reader to ask questions and be able to follow the film without trouble and confusion which is what we wanted due to the young age of our target audience.
VLADIMIR PROPP
using propp's character theory that in every film there are six types of people, a hero, heroine, father/protecting role, villain, mentor, accompany.
Applying this to our film would mean that the Hero was Eva as she is the main character and the one the film and problems revolve around. The heroine would be Peter as he is the love interest of Eva. the protecting role would be peters father as when he finds out about what Eva can do he is strongly against them being together. The villain would be the Witch the mentor the lovely witch who helps train Eva. finally the accompanies would be James and Ava as they are Evas other close friends.
These are nine screen shots from out opening that our group chose as we believed that they challenged the audience.
the first screen shot shows Eva in on of the very first shots, this is a very mysterious shot and along with the voice over allowing the reader to question what is going on and who she is.
the second image shows Eva on the floor this is the first shot shown of her in the whole film it causes the reader to ask why she is there and try and match up the narration with the clip.
The third image is of the title, this was chosen as it shows the first initial introduction of the film to the audience.
the fourth image shows one of the characters facing away from the screen in this shot he turns around in pain like he has been shot. As this is shown really quickly in the flash back/re wind scenes it causes the reader to question what happened to him and want to continue watching the film. the third shot is a close up of Eva who is in a witch like room this links to scenes later in the film.
the sixth shot is also of Eva in this shot she looks happy and it distinctive shows that the footage is being re wound.
the seventh shot is also of Eva this is a long shot and it is of Eva in a grave yard it becomes clear to the audience that someone close to her has died.
the ninth shot is a close up of a wing mirrored it shows that they are going backwards clearly in time, the rain on the window also help the audience get an idea for the setting.
the final shot is of Eva walking backwards this is also then played forward and shows that the film is now playing in real time and it is at the 'official start' of the movie.
Target Audience Feedback
This lesson in our group we asked six year 8's to help us with give feedback on our film opening. We felt this was a good age group because this age is our target audience. They had a lot of positive things to say about our film opening and also gave us an idea of what we could do to improve.
These were the questions we asked them:
We also created a questionnaire using survey monkey which anyone was able to respond to once they had watched our opening sequence. We emailed this questionnaire to a large selection of people ranging from ages 6-60 this was to get more accurate results and find out whether out our target audience and other research was correct. We were also able to get a better understanding of the direct audience and their interests.

These were the questions we asked them:
- was the genre obvious?
- What do you think the genre was?
- Did the film engage or interest you?
- What was your favourite part of the film opening?
- Was there anything in particular you didn't like about the film opening?
- Did you like the music- did it suit?
- Is there anything about the film you would change or improve, and how?
- What would you rate our film opening out of 10?

Our Film Poster
Sophie created many different poster drafts and here are a few.
The photographs on them were taken when filming the first scene of our film opening, when Eva is mysteriously lying on the floor in the woods. The photos were taken using Sophie's Iphone and she also created these posters on her phone too.

Evangeline: Final draft
This is the final outcome of our opening sequence of 'Evangeline'. It took a lot of time and effort to create this product and we are pleased with the outcome.
Blog Reflection
Technology
Throughout my learning journey of creating many different blog posts, I have explored differernt ways of presenting information. I have recently become more familiar with Prezi and think its a great way to present and explore ideas. I have also learnt to upload powerpoints onto my blog by using my new Slideshare account.I used this to present our first group film pitch, My individual film pitch, the institutions task and the film pitch representing genre. When editing our final film, I took the main role of editing our film opening which allowed me to become more familiar with Premiere and the different effects I could put on the sound or video to improve it.
Mark out of 20
I would give myself a 15/20 at the moment. I think some posts in my blog need to include more detail and the analysis needs to be more in depth but I believe I have completed all the tasks given to an acceptable standard.
More thorough or less complacent?
I think i need to be more thourough in a lot of my posts which focus on in depth writing. I think i need to write a lot more to explain what i think/ have to say.
Is it fun to look through?
I think my blog is fun to look through because i believe it is colourful and exciting. The font is dark red and the headings are red bubble writing, making it look eye catching. I also think this is better than having plain black normal font because i am a visual learner so find it benefits me when my work looks more interesting. I have also included images in my posts to make them more visual and break up the text.
Is the learning journey evident?
I think the learning journey is evident because I think I have improved throughout the course of my media lessons since the beginning of year 12. My blog shows how over time i introduced different programmes to present my information.
Targets
I think i need to improve on the depth of my descriptions and analysis in order to achieve a better standard of work and overall try to achieve the best grade I can.
Production Diary
This is a diary showing an overview of what our group did on a daily basis from the beginning of the film making process to the end. It was rewarding to see the progress our group made over time because at the beginning we didn't think we would achieve as much as we have. We worked efficiently as a group and all contributed vital ideas to make our final outcome a successful one.
Script for our new film opening
This is the new and updated script. It is just a voiceover and not actual speech. It is played during the footage of the trees and Eva lying on the floor in the woods (scene 1).
We kept the dialogue minimal becuase we wanted more emphasis on the footage itself than what the characters were saying. We wanted the visauls (mise en scene) to tell the story and not the speech.
Our speech tells the audience enough for them to understand what the film is going to entail, even though there isn't much of it. We find this a sign of success because it shows that our footage is good.
Fonts for titles
We originally had a pale yellow font for our titles i have learnt that titles need to look more professional so we ended up with using a dark maroon colour.
We have used Adobe Carlson Pro as the typeface. We think this looks professional and not too modern.

12/12/14- Filming #3
Today we spent just over an hour filming the first section of our film opening set in the woods among the trees/woodland. Even with our biggest efforts to ensure the filming went perfectly, the camera ran out of charge shortly after getting to our location. We were quite annoyed by this but we overcame this by using an Ipohone 5 to film our footage. The quality of the camera is very good but using a phone meant that we could not use the tripod to raise the camera into the air. It also meanr rhat the camera was not kept as still as what we had originally hoped. Apart from that, filming went really well and the footage we got was successful.

Shot List: updated
Scene1- this will be a section from the middle of the plot of the while film.

Scene2- a series of many different shots in different locations rewound and sped up to show that the film is 'going back to the beginning'. (Which is what Eva wishes to happen).
Music: updated
For our final draft we changed the music in order to fit with the scenes better. Our class feedback included critisism about our original feedback saying 'it wasn't right for a film opening, more suitable for a daytime TV programme'.
Both of the new soungs we have used include a piano sound. This relates them to each other except the second one we used 'breathe me' is more upbeat and louder than 'soda'. This is appropriate bceasue 'Soda' is playign when the video is mysterious and needs to build tension whereas
For the first scene set in the woods where it is quite slow and there is a VoiceOver, we used 'Soda' by the Cinematic Orchestra. It sosunds quite 'twinkly' which suits the scene among the trees well. It makes it feel mystical and gives a sense of a fanasy theme (witchcraft). This is non-diagetic because the music sounds like a children's lullaby
For the second scene after the main title (of rewound scenes back to the beginning of the film) we used 'Breathe Me (instrumentral version)' By Sia.

Representations: updated
Eva Jones is a Young female at the age of 17 and 11 months. She is a friendly, happy, curious character. She goes to a state school which is multi-clutural and mix gender. We know she is curious becasue she is seen looking around and she seems to be exploring in woodland areas.
The music gives the audience that the film is mystical and it makes you want to find out what is going to happen.

Film Poster ideas
I like this one because it is simple but effective and doesn't give too much away. There is also space to write the appropriate titles.
These two photos have different effects put on them. The top one enhances the colour more, which makes her hair and dress stand out more.
These three have an effect on them making them tint slightly blue. I like this because it represent the genre of fantasy/supernatural well.
This is an example of a film poster which Sophie created to give us an idea of how we want it to look.
New film idea
We have decided to change our film opening based on the feedback we received. We realised the acting wasn't very successful when watching back our first draft. Therefore we elimated the library scenes and created the opening to be more based around the main character (Eva).
We have not changed the theme of witchcraft but instead we have made it more obvious to the audience. We did this by including a VoiceOver from the main character right at the beginning which helps the audience understand how she is feeling. This also makes the film more personal than what is was like in our first draft.

First Draft Feedback
Today we received the feedback about our first draft. Overall, there was a wide range of different opinions.
We have established in our group that we need to improve the:
Below are some images we have taken of three of our feedback sheets. Looking through them all we found that a lot of people did not understand our film opening. Because of this we have decided to create scenes which show more clearly what the film is about. Due to this only being our first draft we knew some aspects were not perfected, like the shakiness of the camera at the end. We did not have time to re-film this so decided we would perfect of change this after our first draft was submitted.
We have established in our group that we need to improve the:
- music
- titles
- camera movement
- length
- acting
- sound

First Draft
This is the first draft of our film opening. We watched everyone's film openings on the monday and also gave each other our personal feedback.
Music: updated
We changed the music from Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata to something less well known. we have decided to use 'Mazzy Star- Fade Into You Karaoke' because it fitted with our genre better. It isn't too happy, tense, scary or cheerful. It is quite natural (the simplistic guitar sound) and fits well for a teenage girl walking alone in a natural environment.
Moonlight Sonata created an atmosphere which was too dramatic. It gave across that it was a horror film from the first few shots because its dark, tense and the character looks lonely.

2/12/14 Filming #2
Today we filmed the interior shots of our film taken in the library. This took quite a while to film because we wanted to make sure the acting was as realistic as possible. We are going to re-shoot the library shots after the first draft deadline to make our film look better: Lee Hart's costume was not acceptable for a group of teenagers who are serious about their studies, The photo of Evangeline was on the screen on Jimmy Allway's computer and the talking was not very load. To portray to the audience that Eva looks like Eva, we are going to include a match on action shot of when the camera zooms into the computer at the end and the shot slowly morphs into a shot of Eva's face and slowly pans away from her showing her walking with her friends. She will have a natural expression to show she does not know anything about the cure she has on her.
Timeline
This is timeline to show where the different titles appear in the opening scene.
This was very helpful when creating all of the titles when editing the film because it gave us a correct order to put them in, which is the same as 'The Craft' (a film with a similar narrative to ours).
We made all of the titles roughly 4 seconds and made them fade in and out when editing our film. We only had one title shown in the library (at the end) because it looked better when the titles were shown without dialogue and lots of colours in the background. Wheres it was easier to include titles in the shots of Eva walking because the background was mainly dark colours (green and grey).

Synopsis planning
Scene 1- A range of shots as Eva is walking. She is located outside Galleywood Cemetry, walking along the path, and headed towards the graves.
Scene 2- Establishing characters in the library and what they are doing.
Scene 3- Eva walks up to her Mothers grave and then the main title is shown.
Scene 4- The film cuts back to the library and Faye starts off by reading a passage about witchcraft. The library group become inquisitive about Eva's whereabouts so they call her.
Scene 5- Eva is seen walking up to the library and over to join her friends. They all gather their bags and exit the shot, the camera then zooms in on a computer screen with the page up of 'Local Legends of Witchcraft' (it zooms into Evangeline's photo).
Script: updated
The script we first created did not portray the characters individual personalities, therefore we decided to develop it in order to give the audience hints as to what each of the characters are like.
There is not much dialogue in typical opening scenes, but ours contains some. The speech helps the audience get an understanding of who the main characters are including names and what might the film be about. It gives the audience a feel for the personalities of the characters and lets them pick favourites. Our script/screen directions are below...
The script:
[Instrumental of Beethoven's Moonlight Stanza is played whilst shots are shown of Eva walking to the church yard. No dialogue. shot pans up then cuts to library scene.]
Alexis, Marco, Faye, Peter and Jack are all in the school library. Three of them are seated around the main table in the order Jack, empty chair, Faye, empty chair and Peter. Behind on the row of computers is Marco and Alexis, Marco is seated in the gap between Jack and Faye facing away from the camera. Alexis is also seated facing away from the camera but in between Faye and Peter, she soon moved to the main table and sits between Faye and Peter.
Alexis: Soo you guys? (pauses) [picks books up from desk in front and moves them to main desk leaving what she had on the screen up] what actually is witchcraft?
Marco: [places head in hands pushing hair back out of face] (mumbles under breath) This is going to take forever.
Peter: [gesturing in Alexis' direction whilst moving basket ball of the chair next to him onto the floor] Alexis come here. I found a definition. [pushes back laptop screen, points and begins to read it out]. {shot cuts to Eva walking into graveyard and crouching down by grave and speech becomes a voice over.} Witchcraft the practice of the mythical arts for example magic, this can either be black or white depending on the intended use. Which craft can also be linked back to the 1500's a time of spells, potions and the invocation of spirits. (fades out)
Title Evangeline is shown on screen. Shot then cuts back to the library.
Faye; [scrolling down website, pushes up glasses and moves hair behind ear] This website is actually pretty interesting. [looking up at website and writing down notes]
Jack; [looks over Faye's shoulder at her computer screen] Hmm yeah I think I looked at that one [continues with what he was writing] *coughs* [scrunches up piece of paper and throws it at peter in a basketball playing fashion]I wonder where Eva is. I know She said she had to go somewhere first but ugh I swear shes been hours, [Tilts head back] I just want to go get food.
Peter; No idea, I'll call her. [reaches down into sports bag and pulls out phone, calls Eva]
This scene shows Eva walking after she has visited her mothers grave. she receives a phone call from Peter and picks it up.
Eva; Hello (pause whilst peter answers) yeah ill be there in a minutes (pauses) okay bye. [put phone down and speeds up her walking]
still on scene of Eva voice over is being played.
Faye; Listen to this quote from the bible. "Leviticus 20:27 man or a woman who is a medium or a necromancer shall surely be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones; their blood shall be upon them.” Its talking about witchcraft.
Eva is shown walking into the library up the stairs and towards the group.
Eva; hiya [walks over to Alexis] sorry im late took longer than I thought.
Alexis: Ah hi Eva, come on lets go. [stands up and starts to pack away her belongings.]
Eva: [looking at James] you guys ready. [everyone gets up apart from Marco and begins to put their things away, and then leaves. Marco then puts his things away and walks out following the group. Camera pans across to Fayes computer that she had left on and zooms into the screen leaving an image of Evangeline up and the audience to realise that she looks like Eva.]
26/11/14 Filming #1
Today we went to Galleywood to film the outside shots taken of Eva. This included scene 1 and 3 (taken in around the cemetery) and scene 5 taken of Eva walking towards the entrance of the library. Sam and I took turns in filming the different shots and Sophie played the role of Eva. We took several takes of each shot to enable high levels of accuracy when editing. Taking several of the same shot mean we can choose the best ones to put together when editing.
Character Development
Eva Jones
This is the main character because the film is based around her finding out about the curse she has on her and also the struggles of trying to eliminate it. She is a seventeen year old girl who is described as outgoing and strong willed. Her mother died a few years ago, it was a tragic and mysterious death. She was a loving woman towards her daughter but also seemed slightly mysterious. She was hiding a deep secret (she knew about the curse upon her daughter and was killed because she wanted to warn Eva that she was soon going to be captured into the supernatural grasp of witchcraft). Eva finds this out later on in the film.
Evangeline Bancroft
This is the character from whom Eva's curse originated from but in the opening scene is only seen as an image and information is displayed on the computer. She was killed in 1914 at the age of 18 for being associated with witchcraft. The curse involves her being reincarnated every eighteen years of life.
Friend 1: Alexis Swift
She is the best friend of Eva. She is described as very loyal and slightly 'dazed' most of the time.
Friend 2: Peter James
He is a close friend of Eva and Alexis. He is a very strong character in the film due to his leading nature and ability to tell right from wrong.
Friend 3: Jack Matthews
He is slightly older but in the same year and working on the same project.
Friend 4: Faye Blake
She is very smart and witty and her relationship with the group develops within the film.
Friend 5: Marco Armstrong
The more mysterious boy who tends to keep himself to himself yet always listens and always knows exactly what to say.
These 5 characters (and Eva) are a group of friends who have been put together for a history project in school to research about witchcraft. When they find out about The Evangeline curse and delve deeper into it, they all help Eva to find out what she can do to stop it hitting her once she turns 18. It turns into an adventure, a race against time to keep Eva alive past her 18th birthday.
Eva, Marco, Alexis, Faye and jack are a group of students who have been put together for a history project, about witchcraft where they have to create a presentation and present it to the class. By doing this they discover the Evangeline curse and attempt to delve deeper into it hoping to find a way of protecting their friend from the terrible curse that lays in her tracks. This is the first film in a series, where the mystery continues and more trouble lays ahead.
Physical description: Eva
The main character Eva, will be played by an actor with dark hair and dark eyes this is because most films of the genre supernatural thriller and because of the 'stereo types' about the way different hair colours on girls make their personalities different. Brown hair is the perfect stereo type for our film as it is more mysterious.
She will be wearing dark casual but dressy clothing for example dark jeans, black boots, a black top and a Maroon knit cardigan.
she is roughly
Eva’s mother died years ago in was a sudden, tragic and mysterious death. She was a loving woman who always strived to help people. She was always there for Eva when she needed her, being the shoulder to cry on and her best friend. She was married to Marc Jones and had been for 20 old years they met in high school and were in love ever since. She wasn't the type of person to hide things from people if she had something on her mind she would say it, but little did people know she was hiding a deep secret. For she knew about the curse that lay upon her daughter, and when she prepared to inform Eva of this curse in hope that they would find a way of stopping it she was gruesomely murdered by an unknown figure who left only a note, written repeatedly on the walls surrounding her dead body it read ‘she knew’. (This is a key part of the film and is referred to as part of Eva’s ‘flash back’ in a dream)

The characters in more detail:
Physical description: Eva
- Roughly 5'3"
- British with Indian and American roots.
- Brown/Redish bellow shoulder length hair.
Eva Louise Jones is the main character of the film; she was born in a small town in the south of England in the year 1994. She is the only Daughter of Marc Jones and Anya Jones, her father is a trained psychologist who is currently retired and working as a lecturer at the local college, her mother was once a medical doctor. Eva currently lives with her father and her grandfather in a large country house near the local church. She is currently attending her final year at sixth form studying three A Level subjects History Art and Chemistry. The plot is based around Eva discovering that she is a witch but not only that there is also a curse on her meaning she will not live past the age of 18. In the film she is currently 17 and 11 months meaning that there is only one month to her 18th birthday. Her personality is outgoing easy to get along with and genuinely strong willed. She is a creative individual who often strays from the crowd.
Eva will also be shown wearing dark shadowy make up this is because it gives her a mysterious and slightly Gothic feel.
she is roughly
Evangeline Bancroft, identical to Eva Jones in appearance and build, she is one of the ‘past lives’ that Eva Jones unknowingly lived. She was a Californian glamour model well paid and well lived. She died in the year 1914 at the age of 18 due to being accused of witchcraft by her alcoholic partner; her death was a result of this. The way of death was unknown but her body found lying in the middle of the road with the numbers 499 calved onto her left forearm. These numbers are significant to the film because they represent all of the past lives ‘Eva’ has lived Evangeline being the 499th and Eva the 500th since the curse was set.
Alexis Swift is the best friend of Eva she is roughly 5’7” with beautiful curly red hair. She is very loyal and a key character to the film, although she is a very ‘Dazed’ character she is also very intelligent and extremely good at doing whatever it takes to find out the truth. Her and Eva have been best friends since the age of 6 when they met at an after school club. She is an only child to two parents one Tom and the other Susan Swift. Both her parents are lawyers meaning she comes from a very well off family; both her parents are very strict so along with hers and Eva’s rebellious nature results in her getting in trouble a lot.
Peter James is a very close friend to Eva and Alexis at roughly 6’ with short mousy hair. He has a strong build and is very athletic. He is a strong character in the film due to his leading nature and ability to tell right from wrong. He has grown up alongside Alexis as they are Cousins and have always been very close, it seems that he has a romantic eye for Eva and cares for her a lot.
Jack Matthews is 18 and in the same history class as all of the other characters, he other than Eva is the oldest one there, he has thick messy blonde hair and blue eyes. He is also very sporty and a very good friend of Peter, and is currently in a relationship with a girl called Mindy who is a Gymnast.
Faye Blake is 5’6 with beautiful long hair and brown glasses. She is smart and witty, she doesn't initially have a strong bond with any of the characters in the beginning of the film but the audience get to see this develop as the film progresses. She comes from a less well of family than the other characters. She is the ‘nerdy’ yet ‘popular’ girl that all of the other kids are jealous of, most people would think that because of this she is not a very nice person and doesn't have much respect for anyone but in fact she is the complete opposite.
Marco Armstrong short with long mousy styled but messy hair, he is the more mysterious character as he tends to keep himself to himself. Marco struggles a lot in school and often gets frustrated when he can’t get something right the first time but this doesn't stop him from giving up as he always pushes through right at the last minute. He is always listening yet saying little but when he does he always knows exactly what to say.
PD 24/11/14
We had already created our fake witchcraft blog but we hadn't uploaded a photo of Evangeline as at the time we didn't have one, over the weekend part of our group met up for part of one of the days to take the photo and get ideas for the poster we were yet to create. We selected a few photos that we thought were appropriate for what we needed (a Marilyn Monroe inspired model photo-shoot from the early 1900's) The three best ones are shown below.
Sophie was the model we used to take the photos of because she plays the part of Eva and the character of Evangeline has to be clear to the audience she looks like Eva. She wore an old fashioned style lace white dress and a large black hat. She wore a subtle amount of black eye makeup, red lipstick and foundation.
From these we then in class picked the one that our whole group believed was best and worked further on that image editing it to make it look even more suitable we edited it a few times changing the colour schemes and placing them all together we chose our final one.
We decided to go with this image because it looks elegant how the actor (model) is not looking at the camera and it looks quite natural how she has her mouth open and shoulders slightly tilted. It is in black & white which suits the old fashioned theme of the witchcraft blog and makes the photo look professional. The way the photo is blurred and slightly 'off-angle' makes it look not too perfect and staged.
Script
This is the script for our opening scene. We tried to keep the dialogue minimal within these first few minutes of the film because we did not want to give too much away to the audience. Most of the dialogue takes place between the characters in the library but sometimes their voices will still be heard when the film cuts to the shots of Eva walking. Giving it a feel of her loneliness at the time she is walking and it also sets the mood because the speech is about witchcraft and the shot is of a mysterious girl walking through a lonely/dark area. This leaves the audience intrigued and asking questions.
We decided to change and develop the script to improve it. Our new script gives a sense of the characters individual personalities and can be found in a separate blog post.

We are going to create a series of posters in order to promote our film in a direct and visual way.
